TACTICAL GAME SYSTEMS

Tactical Game Systems is a game development company located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.  Our goal is to provide quality table top games to the general public for free, and develop games for distribution and licensing to manufacturers and retailers.

As the game industry has changed over the years, the feasibility of developing and publishing league based or "basement" game systems has decreased every year.  A few desingers have done a great job, and provided us with hours of entertainment.  Sadly, however, many more of the games that are developed and tested are never played by more than a few core players in one's own clique of gamers.
Using the web and digital production and distribution tools, TGS hopes to provide game systems for free that are fun to play, exciting to experience, and easy to modify.

By allowing game players to use the basic systems provided to develop content that interests them, via open source game systems, it's up to the people playing the game to decide which battlefield they would like to experience.  For example, The Front™ is a World War II squad level 1/72 scale miniatures game system - it can be used to play out any tactical action from that time period, from North Africa to Iwo Jima.

There are currently seven games under development at TGS.  Of these, five are slated for free distribution via open source downloads from this website.  The other two games, Solar War™ and Modern Armored Combat™ are under final development for retail sale or licensing.

Frequently Asked Questions about "open source" and game licensing can be found on the User Agreement's page.

Company History

In 1995 the first Tactical Systems game was developed by Dave Garacci.  After three years of writing (and re-writing) and testing, the Modern Armored Combatsystem was born - it uses "microscale" armor miniatures (1:286 scale), to simulate platoon scale combat using Infantry, Armor, Artillery, and Air Strikes.  The US Army's AirLand Battle 2000 doctrine was used as a basis for much of this rules system.  This realistic basis and sceintific style of game development was key in the formation of a game development strategy of realism and believability.

Dave is joined by two close friends and long (long) time table top game players, in this game development venture.  Jason Buccholtz, son of Fritz Buccholtz (the oringinal war game retailer in Milwaukee, WI, and recent owner of the well known Napoleons game shop in Shorewood, WI), brings his industry experience and game development skills to the table.  Many of the early game concepts and game play systems were influenced by Jasons 25 years of table top game play experience.  Odell Charles White acts as "master" game tester and game play analyst.  Odell has many years of experience in both table top and computer based games, as well as a love for the scifi genre, in particular Anime.  In addition to these main players, TGS is supported by the following core game testers:  Charles Luebke-Wheeler, Kristain Herrick, Robert Hausknecht, Grant Mueller, Dan Grimes, and Gerry Streeter.
