25th Century |
|
2407 | Inter-stellar probes with new Fusion power plants leave for the 10 closet star systems. Many will reach their destinations in less than 500 years, over taking all previous probes. |
2412 | Martian political climate stabilizes with two political parties – both loyal to the Earth government. |
2421 | Martian economy continues to expand, despite political problems, partially due its location in the solar system. |
2426 | Republic shipyards produce new forms of fast attack ships and shuttles, mounting Fusion engines and advanced Beam weapons. Many of these ships are built around Mars, and some are sold to the Jovian Federation. |
2433 | Jovian scientists develop increasingly faster drive systems, making trade with the inner planets more reliable and less expensive. |
2440’s | The Solar System is largely explored, and standard routes and outposts make for safe and expedient travel throughout the system. |
2453 | The Terra-forming of Mars is complete – roughly 125 years later than expected. The cost of maintaining the new climate is estimated to be 30% of Martian Annual GPP. |
2454 | Terran Space Agency increases fees for patrols in Jovian space. |
2555 | Jovian Federation begins to send patrols and security vessels with transport ships, often beside Terran Security Forces. |
2457 | Numerous terrorist acts on the eve of the 400 year anniversary of the first landings on Mars. |
2458 | Terran Security Force on Mars is increased from 45,000 to 130,000, police and soldiers. |
2460 | Jovians “federalize” all spacecraft around Jupiter and Saturn, and begin to refit many with Graviton engines and weapons. |
2460 | Martians elect new government into office, amid increased tensions with Earth. New leaders call for independent planet status and pledge to work towards this goal peacefully with the Terran Government. |
2461 | Martian Terra-forming Corporations take equipment off-line in protest of Terran “occupation” of Mars. |
2461 | TSA forces take control of terra-forming equipment on Mars. Martian Government declares martial law and puts Martian Defense Forces on a high state of readiness. |
2462 | Jovian Space Navy completes secret transport of graviton weapon and shield technology to the Martian Defense Force, in exchange for advanced terra-forming technology. |
2462 | Martian Government declares independence from the Terran Republic. |
2462 | A loosely reformed Martian government conducts new elections and begins to organize defenses to repel future Terran attacks. Martian Defense Force troops work to route out Terran security forces around the planet. |
2463 | Most government posts go to the isolation socialists (MSF), whom soon pass laws making the “Martian Collective” the new ruling party on Mars. The new government takes control of most of the larger cities, spaceports, and industrial centers on the planet. |
2463 | The recently formed Terran Battle Fleet leaves to enforce Republic control over Mars. This force is made up of only a few of the new heavy cruisers – most of the ships are older and in some cases privately owned. |
2463 | The Battle of Phobos. The newly formed Martian Defense Fleet, repulses the Terran Fleet sent to bring Mars back into the Republic. Using graviton weapons from the outer-rim and requisitioned Terran ships from the Martian Space Docks, all the Terran attack ships are badly damaged or destroyed. |
2464 | The Martian Collective gains total control of the planet Mars and surrounding outposts. |
2468 | The Terran Republic reels from the loss of much of the space fleet and the economic wealth of Mars. Strained relations with Jovians and even other Republic planets (Venus in particular), forces a shift in development from peaceful industries and exploration, to weapons and security. |
2474 | The Lunar government signs a Defense Treaty with Earth. Venus follows in 2476, after promises from the Terran government of independence from Earth within the next 100 years. |
2477 | Jovian planets begin to send inter-stellar probes of their own into deep space. Rumors of automated "colony-ships" using suspended animation to transport human explorers surface, but can never be confirmed. |
2482 | A small comet collides with the Jovian planetoid Io. Many smaller asteroid pepper other moons and planetoids near Jupiter. Loss to both human life and industry is minimal. |
2489 | The Martian economy slows to its lowest growth rate in 60 years. Limited trading with the Jovians, and the lack of trade with the Republic, has taken its toll - the Martian government looks for new ways to spark growth and investment. |
2492 | The Martian government begins to open doors for investment by Jovian corporations. |
2497 | Terrans and Martians agree to re-open prewar trade routes and promise military patrols in these areas to protect each others ships. |
2498 | First Jovian intelligence outposts are setup secretly in the Asteroid Belt. |
2499 | The Solar System prepares for the official 500 year anniversary of human exploration in space, as relative peace has spread across the system. |
